OUTPUT
The output of a worn wheel set
is the greatest in normal working conditions with worm gear drive, proper
lubrication with a load near the nominal level after adequate run-in.
The approximate output
can be calculate with the following formula:

where T2 and P1 are the data taken from the power table.
When the wheel is drive and you have a reversed output
rev. is always less than .
The following formula can be used to estimate the output:

Remember that during start up, the output is less than
at low speed because friction robs energy.
The output lost generates heat. It is necessary to verify that the housing
has adequate cooling properties.
LUBRICATION
Lubrication is generally bath type for the gears in order to splash
oil also on the bearings.
Normally, the worm gear is towards the bottom with the oil level at
the worm gear's axis. In other cases, we suggest an oil level sufficiently
high so that lubricate reaches the gears.
When the worm gear rotates rapidly you must used forced lubrication.
The lubricant's viscosity must be chosen based on the worm gear's rpms
(see the diagram).

For this reason, we recommend using a top-of-the-line
product.
Oil viscosity, according to its ISO rating, is expressed in mm2/sec
(cSt) of 40°C. See table.
Synthetic oil used in temperatures from -30°C to +100°C and
after run in must be changed every 10,000 hours of operation.
Mineral oil with E.P. additives is generally used for temperatures from
-10°C to +90°C. It must be changed after the first 500 hours
of operation and every 5,000 hours after that.
